Job Summary
Facilitates
and implements complex and sensitive assignments as they relate to
larger
executive initiatives within a multi-faceted academic environment.
Responsible
for the oversight and management of institution-wide projects,
including
research, strategies and collaboration that support program success.
Provides
specific planning, management and evaluation of the project’s
resources, time,
costs, and scope on behalf of the Governing Board President.
Scope
This position works with the Chancellor and Governing Board President. Work contacts include Governing Board Members, District and college executives, legal counsel, administrators, faculty, staff, external contractors, external government agencies, business partners, community members, and students. Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This
position reports to the Chancellor and works directly with the
Governing Board
President. Work direction and
consultation occur frequently with the incumbent expected to complete
the
project independently.
Supervision Exercised
May
provide work direction and consultative advice to a variety of
administrators
and staff throughout the district.
Representative Duties
Oversees
and facilitates the completion of contractor’s responsibilities as
defined by
the contracted scope of work approved by the Governing Board and
Chancellor,
ensuring consistency with timing, budget, and performance expectations; provides direction and support to management
on the activities and progress of the contractor through reports, oral
and
written communication; assesses and plans for the needs of the
contractor,
serves as the primary liaison between the contractor and all internal
personnel; notifies appropriate internal administrators of contractor’s
information and support requirements; monitors the scope of the
contractor’s
activities ensuring alignment with the intention and focus of proposed
work as
well as timeline, budget, and overall performance; meets routinely with
the
contractor’s personnel and MCCCD personnel to facilitate the timely
completion
of the project; communicates requirements, issues of concern, and
progress to
the contractor’s primary contact and internal management; develops and
proposes
to internal management changes to the original project timetable,
budget, and
scope, as necessary; reports weekly to internal management on the
progress of
the project with specific correlation to the project timetable, budget,
and
scope; provides communication consultation and strategies and executes
communication plans on behalf of the Governing Board President specific
to
project development, progress and conclusions; performs related duties
as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: district structure and
processes; community
college philosophy and administration; educational, cultural,
financial,
demographic, political, governmental, employee relations, and human
resources
issues relevant to the district’s accomplishment of its mission; public
relations; high level communications strategies; statutes governing
educational
services; document production and design; project planning and
budgeting; and
operation of computers and software.
Ability to: represent the Chancellor and
Governing Board
President to a wide range of internal and external constituencies;
manage
projects; coordinate the work of teams; prepare project reports and
other
written statements and materials; understand, interpret, assess and
communicate
project requirements; conduct research; communicate effectively orally
and in
writing, establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in
the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any
combination of education, training and experience that provides the
required
knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be a college degree
in
education and/or professional experience in an educational environment
involving significant liaison and project management responsibilities.
Special Conditions of Employment
May require travel and evening and weekend
hours.
Some positions
may require a
Class D Driver’s License.
