Curriculum Transmittal Memorandum to Instructional Councils (Back to Top)
A Curriculum Transmittal Memorandum can be initiated only by a Vice President of Academic Affairs or by his/her designee. The Memorandum is attached to all curriculum proposals and general studies proposals and used to transmit them from the Vice President of Academic Affairs to all members of appropriate Instructional Councils.
The Chair of an Instructional Council:
Summarizes the input of the members of the Council
Returns within ten (10) instructional days a written evaluation of a curriculum proposal on the appropriate form to the College which initiated the proposal

The Vice President of Academic Affairs:
Postdates the memorandum by three (3) instructional days to allow for mail delivery
Indicates the name of the appropriate Instructional Council and its Chair
Identifies the initiating Vice President of Academic Affairs and the college and signs memorandum
Identifies course proposals by course prefix, number and title and/or identifies program proposals by the program title
Indicates the date of the next College Curriculum Committee meeting
Identifies the remaining Instructional Council members
Mails the Curriculum Transmittal Memorandum to all appropriate Instructional Council members

Content is educationally sound and appropriate for community college students
Content is part of the discipline indicated by the prefix
Credits are appropriate for content covered
Instructor load is appropriate for required instructional effort
Course title and description accurately reflect course content
Prerequisites and/or corequisites are appropriate for content covered
Competencies reflect appropriate student skills related to the content covered
Outline identifies the key content headings necessary to cover the topic adequately
Duplication of content of other courses in the discipline(s) assigned to the Instructional Council has been considered
Processing the Instructional Council Evaluation of Proposals (Back to Top)
The college is responsible for sending program proposals to the appropriate instructional councils once the proposal is completed. Instructional Council evaluates all proposals with the exception of program modifications and program deletions. As of fall, 1996, Instructional Councils receive program modifications and program deletions as informational items.
The college is responsible for sending program proposals to the appropriate instructional councils once the proposal is completed. The Instructional Council evaluates all proposals for the areas assigned to them and notes their recommendations on the evaluation form. Instructional Councils have ten working days to submit an evaluation of the proposal to the initiating college.
Processing of Instructional Council evaluations generally involves the following:
The College Curriculum Technician:
Receives the Instructional Council curriculum proposal evaluation,
Ensures that the information is transferred from the evaluation form to the proposal prior to submitting the curriculum proposal to the MCCCD Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation,
Informs the MCCCD Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation via email of the Instructional Council’s evaluation if received after the curriculum proposal is sent to the District
