Occupational Program Within A Degree or Certificate – Proposal Format

An occupational program proposal that includes embedded programs can be done in two different ways but the District Curriculum Office prefers the following option #2 to facilitate the review of the proposal by all parties involved.

It should be noted that when CCLs are listed as part of the AAS or CCL programs (generally listed as Program Prerequisites or as part of the Required Courses area), and the program has specific courses that follow immediately after the CCL program, an "AND" connector should be placed between the CCL and the list of courses that follow...for example:

SAMPLE: AND, OR CONNECTORS USED IN PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Program Prerequisites: Credits:      25-41

Intermediate Emergency Medical Technology Certificate (24)

Option 1:

The CCL and its title along with credit hours for the program is listed within the Program Prerequisites area. The CCL requirements will be entered in the MCCCD degree audit system within the Program Prerequisite area of the degree. With this type of format, the interpretation of the requirement is that a student does not have to complete the certificate before taking courses listed in the degree. The degree must specifically state that the student must complete the CCL prior to taking courses in the degree for district staff to build that control into the degree audit system. The Program Prerequisite area note would be the place to state the required completion of the CCL prior to taking courses in the degree.

Option 2:

All of the CCL requirements are specifically listed within the degree's Program Prerequisite area. The interpretation of the requirements is the same as above.
