New Course/Program

A. Format

Need statement adequately documents the need for the course/program and addresses all appropriate concerns

Course format meets eight common course elements requirements (Applies to new courses)

Program description adequately describes the purposes of the program and the kinds of employment for which students will be prepared (applies to new occupational programs)

Competencies indicate measurable student skills as intended outcomes of the course/program

Outline relates to specifically stated competencies

Required courses indicate preparation leading to development of specified program competencies (applies to new occupational programs)

Program requirements specify all graduation requirements for the Associate in Applied Science degree in accordance with Maricopa Community College’s policies.

B. Impact

Course/program is educationally sound and appropriate to be offered by the college

Implications for facilities and equipment, qualified staff, budget and other necessary resources have been considered

Instructor load is appropriate and can be supported by college resources (applies to new courses)

Course/program does not adversely impact existing courses or programs (offered at the college) by competing for students, resources, etc.

C. Recommendations

Instructional Council's recommendations have been considered

Advisory Committee's recommendations have been considered (applies to occupational courses/programs)

Course/Program Modification/Deletion

Stated reason for modification/deletion is justifiable

Modification/deletion does not adversely impact course or program offerings at the college

Instructional Council's recommendation has been considered

Advisory Committee's recommendation has been considered (applies to occupational program modifications)

New Course/Program

Course does not unnecessarily duplicate existing courses in other disciplines offered throughout the District (applies to new courses)

Course/program is educationally sound and positively affects program offerings within the District

Course/program does not adversely impact existing courses or programs offered throughout the District by competing for students, resources, etc

Course/program does not conflict with established educational policies of the Maricopa Community Colleges

Course/Program Modification/Deletion

Stated reason for modification is educationally justifiable

Modification does not adversely impact courses or programs district-wide

Modification does not conflict with established educational policies of the Maricopa Community Colleges
