General: Curriculum Systems
The Maricopa Community College District has over 10,000 current, valid credit courses in both academic areas and occupational education. Additionally, students can select from more than 1,000 active occupational programs approved for offering by the Maricopa Colleges. The MCCCD Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation utilizes the following computerized curriculum systems to contain the information on numerous courses and programs that
support the curriculum development and processing efforts of the colleges and educational center(s). District-wide dissemination of course and program information via the systems is also essential to keep the colleges informed on new and modified curricula.
Curriculum Systems and Their Features:
Course Inventory Audit (CIA):
The CIA was developed in the early 1980s to support different college functions. The course information in the CIA is limited. The CIA contains the following: course prefix/number/suffix, titles (36-character, 24-character), terms and term ranges, Governing Board approval date, department/division codes, indicators for Prerequisites, Corequisites (P, C), cross-referenced courses, activity type, credits, periods. Over the years the need for more specific course information has generated an extension of the CIA. That extension is the MCCCD course information on the Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation website. In Fall 2007 a new Student Information System (SIS)will replace the existing SIS Legacy and the Course Inventory Audit. The CIA or course bank will be referred to as the Course Catalog and all official elements of a course including related elements will be accessed through the Course Catalog. The District Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation website will continue to provide course information but will be reformatted in support of the Course Catalog.
MCCCD Curriculum Office Website
The MCCCD Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation website allows for expanded information on courses. All course elements and related course elements can be found in the course information section of the website. Program information has also been added with program requirements and program competencies now available online. The course elements including descriptions and program requirements approved and released to the colleges through the website CANNOT be altered. They constitute the official elements for the Maricopa Community Colleges, processed and approved through the appropriate authorized agents.
The website can be accessed at http://www.maricopa.edu/academic/ccta
Monitoring Academic Progress System (MAPS)
Graduation technicians in support of graduation checkout processes are currently using MAPS. The MAPS is a degree auditing system. The degree audit system allows for a comparison of individual student records against any of the hundreds of academic and occupational programs within Maricopa. A new degree audit system is projected for release in Fall 2007as part of the new Student Information System's functionality. This functionality is referred to as Academic Advisement.
System Generated Reports
All three systems provide different types of reports which are helpful in the curriculum development processes. The reports are described throughout the different sections of the Handbook.
System Access
Anyone interested in gaining access to the different systems listed above should contact the Coordinator of Transfer Articulation - Curriculum at the district Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation or their college computer coordinator.
The Curriculum Procedures Handbook is a product of the Maricopa County Community Colleges District. Any and all changes to the Handbook are monitored and coordinated through the District Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation. Please give credit to the Maricopa County Community College District if the Handbook or sections of the Handbook are duplicated.
