Development of New Associate Degrees
In Fall 2008, the MCCCD District Curriculum Committee recommended a moratorium on development of new associate degree types effective immediately. This recommendation was accepted by the Vice-Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs.
Recognizing a need to provide a framework for programs that may not be supported by the statewide transfer system, the District Curriculum Committee endorsed the development of a set of procedures and templates for development of advising guides. These forms are available on the Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation website under 'Curriculum Resources'. Advising guides are appropriate when the needs of transfer students can not be met through existing statewide transfer degrees. District wide advising guides are used to advise students intending to transfer into content specific majors or interest areas. Contact the Curriculum Design Facilitator at your college for questions on the development of advising guides.
Updates/Maintenance
The updates to the AGEC, Associate in Art degree, Associate in Arts Elementary Education (AA EE) degree, Associate in Arts Fine Arts (AA FA) degrees, Associate in Science degree, Associate in Business degrees, Associate in General Studies degree, and the Associate in Applied Science General Education Requirements follows a distinct process and different from the processes supporting occupational programs. The District Curriculum Committee is the agent responsible for modifications to the above degrees. Updates to the AAEE, AA FA, ABus GR and ABus SR require the participation of the appropriate Instructional Councils. The Instructional Council reviews the program and submits recommendations for change to the District Curriculum Committee.
