Quick Read on the District Curriculum Committee
Among its many roles the District Curriculum Committee is the agent in curriculum development responsible for evaluating the district-wide impact of a curriculum proposal and taking action on the proposals. The MCCCD Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation is responsible for preparing the curriculum Governing Board agenda and submitting the District Curriculum Committee's recommendations on curriculum to the MCCCD Governing Board. The Committee’s voting membership is comprised of Vice Presidents of Academic Affairs and college faculty representatives. The faculty representatives are selected by whatever process is in place at the respective college. The Operational Procedures for the District Curriculum Committee are contained in the Curriculum Procedures Handbook - General Section.
The District Curriculum Committee meets on a monthly basis. The meeting dates are included in the Curriculum Processing Calendar as well as the dates when the monthly agendas are posted to the website for release to the Committee and other interested individuals and groups.
There are two types of District Curriculum Committee agendas:
The online agenda includes the college curriculum proposals submitted for the month for review and action.
The general agenda includes both a planning and a business segment. The planning segment allows for Committee members to spend the necessary time in reviewing items that require more in-depth discussion and planning. The business segment provides the forum for Committee to continue their public meetings on other curricular proposals that are better addressed at this level rather than through the online agenda review/approval processes.
These agendas may be accessed by clicking in the appropriate link in the above navigation bar.
District Curriculum Planning Segment
The District Curriculum Committee may include in their Planning Segment items related to General Education, university alignment, development of new majors, etc. Committee members may access information distributed at these meetings through the DCC Planning Segment Resources.
