Committees, Councils and Individuals
District Level

Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board: Approves all new credit-bearing courses and all new credit-based certificates and degrees before they can be offered by any college within the District; approves all modifications to any credit-bearing course and to any credit-based certificate and degree before the modification can take effect; approves MCCCD Graduation Policies and General Studies requirements for all awards.

Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost: Serves as chair of the District Curriculum Committee; oversees the planning and coordination of curriculum for the District; assigns subjects and disciplines to instructional councils; approves hiring qualifications for faculty in the various disciplines; consults with the Chancellor concerning curriculum proposals when necessary; recommends and submits curriculum proposals to the MCCCD Governing Board for approval.

District Curriculum Committee (DCC): Maintains a broad-perspective oversight of curriculum trends and plans curriculum and articulation initiatives; collaborates with CCTA in the maintenance of the District course bank and program offerings; approves new and modified subject, course and program proposals based on the recommendations of instructional councils, college curriculum committees, and other reviewing bodies; approves annual Catalog Common Pages based on the recommendations of relevant committees and councils; consults with and advises CCTA regarding articulation issues and initiatives between MCCCD and other institutions; consults with and advises CCTA regarding curriculum issues and initiatives between MCCCD and national agencies; arbitrates conflicts arising over curriculum proposals; provides information about DCC meeting outcomes to the separate colleges; makes annual recommendations to the MCCCD Governing Board regarding Graduation and General Education Policies; maintains and approves modifications to the Curriculum Procedures Handbook; reviews and approves the annual MCCCD Curriculum Processing Calendar. Executive Director of Academic Affairs & Partnerships: Plans for and facilitates the work of the District Curriculum Committee; directs and monitors the processes related to the development and submission of curriculum proposals for review and action by DCC and the MCCCD Governing Board, directs and monitors the processes related to review of and action on proposed articulation agreements; collaborates with universities regarding transfer; represents the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at APASC and DCC; directs the development and maintenance of curriculum system supports and resources ; oversees the creation of necessary reports and the archiving of records.

Assistant Director of Curriculum Systems: Provides direction for and information on curriculum processing, procedures, policy, curriculum-related SIS functionality, archiving of historical curriculum record; guides and assists Curriculum Development Facilitators and Curriculum Technicians in the processing of curriculum proposals.

Assistant Director of Transfer and Articulation: Provides information regarding articulation at state-level, such as outcomes of the Arizona Transfer Articulation Committee and of the various Articulation Task Forces (ATF); guides and assists faculty in the development of various kinds of transfer agreements with other institutions.

MCCCD General Studies Faculty Representative: Serves as co-chair of the General Education Articulation Task Force (GEATF), a state-level group reporting to the Academic Program Articulation Steering Committee (APASC);  collaborates with ASU regarding general studies criteria and the articulation of MCCCD courses into ASU general studies areas; coordinates the submission of general education proposals and documents outcomes of university action.

Instructional Council: Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of course and new occupational program proposals received from a college administrator responsible for curriculum and their impact on the disciplines for which the Instructional Council is responsible (See Curriculum Processing Support Materials section for Suggested Criteria for Instructional Council(s) Evaluation of Proposals); receives occupational program modification proposals from the initiating college as informational items; provides to the initiating college, through the Council chair,  the Council’s  written recommendation regarding course and new occupational program proposals based upon the evaluations of individual Council members, within ten instructional days of the date of the Curriculum Transmittal Memorandum.

College Level

Vice President of Academic Affairs: Consults with and guides faculty in the development of curriculum proposals and supporting materials; provides feedback concerning the merits and feasibility of curriculum proposals developed at the college; consults with the College President, faculty and appropriate deans district-wide when necessary concerning the impact of curriculum proposals on other instructional units within the District; begins the formal recommendation and approval of curriculum proposals initiated at the college by sending the proposals to members of the appropriate Instructional Council(s); submits the curriculum proposal with the recommendation of the Instructional Council to the College Curriculum Committee; typically chairs the College Curriculum Committee; recommends curriculum proposals initiated at the college to the College President for approval.

Occupational Administrator: Provides guidance and support to the initiator, occupational department/division chairs, and the Curriculum Development Facilitator concerning the development of an occupational curriculum proposal; serves as a liaison with the advisory councils of occupational programs that the college offers; collaborates with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and other college administrators; serves a member of the Occupational Administrators Council.

College Curriculum Committee: Evaluates curriculum proposals initiated at the college and considers the recommendations of Instructional Councils and Advisory Committees regarding curriculum proposals; assures that curriculum proposals are well developed and adequately supported; evaluates the impact of curriculum proposals on the resources and other curricula of the college; recommends curriculum proposals to the college Vice President for further processing.

Curriculum Development Facilitator (CDF): serves as a member of the faculty representing the college as a voting member of the District Curriculum Committee; provides guidance/training for faculty in curriculum processes; assists faculty in writing and developing curriculum proposals for new/modified courses, new/modified occupational programs, and new/modified academic programs; assists the occupational administrator, the VPAA, department/division chairs, and faculty through all phases of program development and modification; reviews curriculum proposals in preparation for college and district curriculum meetings; serves as a curriculum consultant and information resource, assisting initiators, the VPAA, deans, chairs, faculty, staff, and business/industry representatives to meet the District processing principles, requirements, and guidelines specified in the District Curriculum Procedures Handbook; serves as a consultant to faculty in the development and/or processing of general studies proposals; collaborates with the college curriculum coordinator and/or technician to process curriculum according to District requirements and guidelines. 

College Curriculum Technician/Coordinator: Provides the appropriate forms and sections of the Curriculum Procedures Handbook as requested; reviews curriculum proposals initiated at the college for accuracy and correctness; assembles all required forms and supporting materials to complete curriculum proposals initiated at the college; sends copies of completed curriculum proposals, with a Curriculum Transmittal Memorandum, to the appropriate college administrators, the college Curriculum Development Facilitator and all members of the appropriate Instructional Council(s); receives Instructional Council evaluations of curriculum proposals initiated at the college and forwards them to the College Curriculum Committee for evaluation; forwards curriculum proposals approved by the College Curriculum Committee and signed by the College President to CCTA for evaluation by the District Curriculum Committee.

Department/Division Chair: Consults with the appropriate college administrator(s) regarding the merits and feasibility for the department/division of curriculum proposals; provides support and guidance to initiators of curriculum proposals  throughout the consultation and development stage and refers initiators to the college Curriculum Development Facilitator for assistance in developing curriculum proposals.

Occupational Program Advisory Committee: Advises occupational faculty and administrators regarding the particular occupational education program it serves; provides information and advice about the preparation of students for success in the occupational field; reviews the occupational program and makes recommendations for its maintenance; is composed of community members who are experts in the occupational field and is formally organized for a specified period of time, usually between one to three years; includes at least one college representative.
