Third Annual Transfer Awareness Week
February 27th- March 3rd, 2006

Each year, the University and College Relations Department has worked collaboratively with the colleges and various councils to designate a week in February as Transfer Awareness Week. This week is designed to:

• Inform students about transfer opportunities and how to use Maricopa courses and degrees toward completing a baccalaureate degree.
• Inform advisors and other student services professionals about the various partnerships and changes in admission requirements and university degrees.
• Strengthen transfer partnerships through dialogue with various stakeholders.

This year's Transfer Week Planning Committee, comprised of representatives of the colleges and the various stakeholders in the transfer process - including faculty, student development and student services, academic administration, counseling and advising, planned events for the week with the intent of raising awareness about the importance of Maricopa's Transfer Mission, and the need to create bridges to support transfer students. Maricopa and ASU at the Polytechnic Campus Partner Up To Bring Transfer Options for Graphic Design Students

Graphic Design faculty at the Maricopa Community Colleges and Graphic Information Technology faculty at Arizona State University - Polytechnic Campus are working collaboratively to strengthen the connection between the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) and Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degrees related to this field. As part of their discussion, both faculty groups identified strategies to support this emerging partnership, which include:

• Create a joint flyer promoting completion of the Associate degree block, which will guarantee students admission into BAS programs in Spring '06.
• Add a link to their respective web sites that will promote the partnership.
• Invite each other to important events and activities (such as Portfolio Days) that will help promote the transfer option to prospective students who are near graduation.
• Remove artificial barriers such as time and distance constraints by offering upper-division online courses and possibly identifying courses beyond the Associate degree that are acceptable for transfer toward the BAS.
The faculty in graphic design are committed to easing the transition of Maricopa graduates transferring to ASU at the Polytecnic Campus.

"The advantage to the articulation of the Association in Applied Science in Graphic Design at SCC with the Bachelor of Applied Science in Desktop Publishing at ASU East is to help streamline the degree process and support the learning goals of our students. Because so many of our students have families or hold full-time jobs, it's important that we make the path to a degree at both institutions as clear and manageable as possible. Instead of running the risk of needing extra time, money, or courses for the students, articulation means that they can work towards their goal degree with maximum efficiency."
