The Maricopa Community Colleges and the University of Texas at El-Paso (UTEP) signed a transfer agreement that will provide an easy transition for Maricopa Community Colleges' students planning to transfer to UTEP to pursue a four-year degree. The agreement will ensure that students who transfer to UTEP from one of the 10 Maricopa Community Colleges have no problems transferring their college credits from one school to the other. The partnership will take effect in the fall 2010 semester. Representatives from the Maricopa Community Colleges and UTEP signed a memorandum of understanding establishing their partnership at a ceremony Monday, March 8 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel, 340 N. 3rd St., Phoenix during the American Council on Education Conference.
"We're delighted to be entering into this transfer agreement with the University of Texas at El Paso," said Maricopa Community Colleges' Chancellor Dr. Rufus Glasper. "UTEP is a well respected institution with a rich history of serving its community. UTEP is an Hispanic Serving Institution and its focus on engineering and science along with a demonstrated track record of success with HSI students is a great partner for all of our students, especially HSI students."
"University transfer is central to the community college mission, and we at Maricopa are committed to expand and enhance our university partnerships," said Dr. Maria Harper-Marinick, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. "We look forward to working with UTEP on developing intentional services to ensure that Maricopa students experience a successful transition to the university."
"I am very pleased that University of Texas at El Paso and the Maricopa Community Colleges are finalizing this agreement," said UTEP President Diana Natalicio. "Modeled after our very successful partnership with the El Paso Community College, this agreement will pave the pathway for Maricopa students who wish to transfer into UTEP programs and provide new opportunities for collaborations between our two institutions."
The transfer agreement with the Maricopa Community Colleges is UTEP's first with community colleges outside the state of Texas.
