Welcome back! Over the summer, you may have seen news articles about
Maricopa's expanded partnership with ASU. This article will bring you
up to date about these developments.
The ASU-Maricopa Alliance is the umbrella partnership agreement
between ASU and the Maricopa Community Colleges. As a part of the Alliance, we now have the Maricopa-ASU
Pathways Program (MAPP) that provides curriculum pathways to maximize student
transfer. MAPPs are designed for students who are decided on a major,
want to transfer to ASU, and can complete the requirements in a 3-year timeframe. Because
MAPPs include the AGEC and associate's degree, the student is "protected" if
he or she decides to change course. Students who are undecided about
a major can still pursue their transfer course work, and decide at a later time if MAPPs are a good option for them.. Students who complete MAPPs will receive tangible incentives including guaranteed
admission into specific university programs, tuition caps, personalized ASU
transfer advisement, and eligibility for merit-based transfer scholarships.
MAPPs are developed by ASU using the existing Maricopa AGEC, AA, AS, and ABus, as well as discipline courses agreed upon by the ATF's. MAPPs are prescriptive because they specify what is required at the lower division, maximize transfer course work, and ensure no loss of credit for the major at ASU. (Continue...)
The Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) approved a proposal to change the transfer admissions policy for all three Arizona public universities. In summary, the policy change would limit "assured admission" to the resident transfer students who either: 1) complete the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) and have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or 2) complete an associate degree or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and have a 2.0 GPA on a 4.00=A scale. If students complete an AGEC with no additional coursework, they would need a grade point average of 2.50 or above on a 4.00=A scale. The policy is effective Fall 2010. To access the ABOR proposal. Should you have questions regarding the policy change, please contact Rose Rojas.
The Academic Program Articulation Steering Committee (APASC) approved revisions to the Elective or Better policy at their May 1, 2009 meeting. The new policy will be effective beginning the Fall of 2010. To access the new policy language.
