MARICOPA FACULTY - MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN
TRANSFER STUDENTS' LIVES
The Maricopa
Community Colleges support Transfer Mission through
multiple partnerships.
Specifically, they support the
articulation of curriculum at the program and course
level and provide opportunities
for students
to earn credits at any of the colleges
and apply them towards the completion of a baccalaureate
degree. Faculty participation is
critical
in the development of these transfer
arrangements. UCR
wants to spotlight the efforts of Maricopa faculty
members who are supporting transfer student success
in two unique ways.

The Nutrition faculty at Mesa
Community College were concerned with the limited
transfer options
for their students. Other than the Nutrition degrees
offered at ASU - Polytechnic campus, students
had really no alternative choices. So they decided
to do something about it. They researched programs
across the country and found
a fit with
an online Didactic
program at Kansas State University (K-State). In
March, two MCC faculty members, Dr. Maureen
Zimmerman and Lori Zienkewicz,
traveled
to Kansas to meet with faculty and university
representatives to discuss formalizing a partnership
to support
the transfer of Nutrition students into
the Dietetics program at K-State.
