MCCCD Transfer Students: Trends and Outcomes

Are you interested in learning how students perform after they transfer? Or, learning how many Maricopa transfer students enrolled at partner universities? The Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation is excited to share with you a new briefing paper on transfer students. The analysis in MCCCD Transfer Students: Trends and Outcomes for 2009suggests that:

• Maricopa students who successfully transfer perform well at the university.
• The Maricopa Community Colleges contribute substantially to the production of bachelor’s degrees in the state of Arizona.
• Efforts to promote academic preparation and completion of the associate’s degree before transfer should be increased and outcomes documented.
• Methodology for calculating the Maricopa transfer rate should account for transfer to universities outside the public state universities.
• The district should focus on improving the transfer rate.  This means identifying the reasons why students who intend to transfer do not make it, and developing effective strategies to support their successful transfer.

In the Spotlight: CGCC University Transfer Fair

Chandler-Gilbert Community College hosted a University Transfer Fair on October 29, and it was a huge success. The purpose of the fair was to provide current CGCC students with career planning information, as well as information about transferring to another institution for completion of a bachelor’s degree. The university representatives were very pleased with the student response and the warm welcome that they received from the CGCC Community.

The new MCCCD Transfer Portal Page is now available! The page provides basic information on transfer, and it is designed to direct students to obtain detailed information at their college. The link to the page will be placed on My.Maricopa.edu as well as the www.maricopa.edu homepage. To access, click here.

MCCCD & NAU: Connecting Students to Business Administration in the Valley

The Maricopa Community Colleges and Northern Arizona University are working together to increase access to affordable bachelor degree offerings in the valley. Through the MCCCD/NAU Connection MCCCD students can earn baccalaureate degrees in person or online while also fulfilling work, family, and personal commitments. (Continue...)

News From Capella University

We are very pleased to announce that the School Psychology specialization in the Harold Abel School of Psychology has received approval from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). This approval for the Master’s and Certificate program highlights Capella University as the first and only online university to be approved.  The conditional approval is from January 1, 2010-December 31, 2011.
