Students in the Palmer D.C. program take more hours in anatomy, physiology, diagnosis and neurology than those in typical medical school programs. During their first year, students will learn all about the basic sciences that are the foundation of chiropractic, such as anatomy, physiology, chemistry, diagnosis and neurology, along with pathology and bacteriology. In the second year of the D.C. curriculum, courses in chiropractic technique, X-ray and practice management are added. The third year is devoted to caring for patients in an outpatient clinic setting, as well as business preparation.
Palmer students have opportunities for hands-on learning in both the classroom and clinic settings early in the curriculum. Outside the classroom, there are countless opportunities to attend seminars, join technique clubs and participate in other continuing education programs.
The Palmer curriculum is typically completed in a little more than three calendar years, but is equivalent to a five-academic-year program. It leads to a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree. The Articulation Agreement program was specifically developed for students who intend to pursue a chiropractic education and want to transfer from Maricopa Community Colleges to Palmer’s Bachelor of Science Program, thus leading to a D.C. degree. The agreement will allow for a smooth transition for students who transfer to Palmer College of Chiropractic.
Pre-chiropractic programs are attracting thousands of students nationwide. The fact is, chiropractic has become an increasingly popular choice among health science students. Why? Because a career as a chiropractor is nationally ranked as more desirable than that of any other health care professions. Chiropractic was recently listed in Fast Company magazine as one of the top 25 jobs, based on demand, salary range, investment in education and how innovative and creative the job allows people to be. Possible chiropractic career paths include: solo practitioner, group practitioner, sports team chiropractor, multi-specialty group practitioner, hospital staff, researcher, educator, administrator or fitness facility chiropractor.
