Health Information Technician
Health Information Technicians, or Registered Health Information Technicians
(RHITs), are technical experts in health information management. This
includes health data collection, analysis, monitoring, maintenance, and
reporting activities in accordance with established data quality principles,
legal and regulatory standards, and professional best practice guidelines.
Work Environment:
Employment is found in many types of facilities, including hospitals,
insurance companies, physician offices, ambulatory care clinics, behavioral
health agencies, federal government agencies, skilled nursing facilities,
home health agencies, and hospices.
Job Outlook:
The employment outlook for Health Information Technicians is good.
Licensure/Certification:
A program graduate is eligible to take the certification exam for the
credential RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician. This exam
is offered through the American Health Information Management Association
and is highly recommended.
Salary:
Starting salary is $25,000 - $30,000 annually

Both the Certificate of Completion and the Associate in Applied Science

As a student enrolled in Allied Health and Health Professions degrees
and certificate programs at one of the Arizona community colleges, you
have an opportunity to complete your bachelor’s degree through
a statewide pathway. This pathway maximizes the use of your community
college credits towards the degree. To help you understand the pathway
and the route to your degree, use the information that has been prepared
by faculty and advisors from both the community colleges and the Arizona
public universities.
The Arizona public universities and community colleges have established
a unique transfer agreement specifically for the Health Professions
Career programs. Instead of relying on a course-by-course evaluation
of a student’s academic transcript, the faculty agreed that it
would be more appropriate to consider the Associate in Applied Science
(AAS) degrees or Certificates of Completion as “blocks”
for transfer to the university.
