Practical Nurse
Practical Nurses care for ill or injured people and perform health maintenance duties under the direction of physicians, dentists, and registered nurses. They provide basic bedside care to patients such as taking vital signs, applying dressings, helping patients with bathing and personal hygiene and administering prescribed medication.

Work Environment:
Employment is found in hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, physicians’ offices, private homes, businesses, and health departments.

Job Outlook:
Employment of Practical Nurses is in high demand. In Arizona, jobs are expected to increase 3.9% over the next five to six years, creating almost 400 new jobs a year..

Licensure/Certification:
Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the Practical Nurse licensure exam offered by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.

Salary:
Practical Nurses earn from $14.50 to $27.00 per hour, for an average annual salary of $29,000 to $56,000.

Program Offerings:
The Maricopa Community Colleges offer a Certificate of Completion in Practical Nursing. The program is offered at the following locations: GateWay Community College, Maricopa Skill Center, SouthWest Skill Center @ Estrella Mountain Community College.
