Healthcare Education : HCC Exemptions

Students are eligible for exemption from HCC130 if they have achieved an Associate of Applied Science degree or a higher degree in a Health Science discipline from a regionally accredited institution of higher education recognized by the Maricopa Community Colleges. Also, students that possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification are eligible for exemption from HCC200.

In addition, the following healthcare programs listed below have identified other work experiences and/or credentials that can exempt students from taking HCC130. A student should contact the specific program director for further information.

NOTE: All students must meet the total number of course credits required for their particular program of study. It is important to understand that exemptions do not count as course credit or toward the total number of units needed to complete a program of study. Please consult your academic advisor for more information on specific course and other requirements for a particular program of study.

Degree/Certificate: Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene
Exemption Criteria: Six month documented experience as a dental assistant or in other related dental patient care activities. Prospective students with healthcare licensure are also exempt from the HCC courses for the Dental Hygiene program.
 
Degree/Certificate: Associate of Applied Science Degree in Physical Therapist Assisting
Exemption Criteria: Any individual currently credentialed in a healthcare discipline OR hold a degree in a recognized health science discipline AND one year of employment in a health services setting OR two years of experience in a related healthcare field/health services setting.
 
Degree/Certificate: Certificate of Completion and Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound
Exemption Criteria: Graduate of an accredited school and currently credentialed in: Medical Radiography (ARRT), Nursing (RN), Nuclear Medicine (NMT), Respiratory Therapy (RTT), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Technologist (RDCS).
 
Degree/Certificate: Certificate of Completion in Community Health Advocate
Exemption Criteria: Any individual with a current degree or license in healthcare and two years of employment in a health services setting.
 
Degree/Certificate: Certificate of Completion or Associate Degree in Health Services Management.
Exemption Criteria: Currently credentialed in a healthcare discipline or hold a degree in a recognized health science discipline and one year of employment in a health services setting or two years experience in a related healthcare field/health services setting.
 
Degree/Certificate: Certificate of Completion and Associate Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology
Exemption Criteria: National certified Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) active license currently working in the field of Nuclear Medicine or nationally certified in one of the following professions: Radiologic Technologist (RT), Registered Nurse (RN), Respiratory Therapist (RRT), or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS), but without any previous experience in the field of Nuclear Medicine.
 
Degree/Certificate: Certificate of Completion in Perioperative Nursing
Exemption Criteria: Current Arizona RN license and one year RN nursing experience within the past three years or equivalent.
 
Degree/Certificate: Certificate of Completion and Associate Degree in Therapeutic Massage.
Exemption Criteria: Current Arizona RN license or a degree in a recognized health science discipline such as Physical Therapy, Exercise Science, Respiratory Therapy, Nuclear Medicine, etc.
