#1 – Teacher Education Alliance Update

The Teacher Education Alliance (TEALL) program is part of the Maricopa Community College-Arizona State University Alliance partnership developed to facilitate access to higher education, and to increase the numbers of students completing Associate and Bachelor’s degrees. TEALL partners currently include all three ASU campuses (Polytechnic, Tempe and West campuses), and six of ten Maricopa Community Colleges (Chandler-Gilbert, Estrella Mountain, Glendale, Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale).

After several years of planning, the TEALL work team began actively recruiting students for program participation in April 2006. Letters of invitation were mailed, and students have been personally recruited by faculty and advising teams at each college. In addition, a website was developed specifically for the TEALL program, with information about participation, upcoming events, scholarships and contacts at each college. Benefits of the TEALL program include the following for those students pursuing the AAEE at participating Maricopa colleges:
  • guaranteed admission into one of the ASU Professional Teacher Preparation Programs;
  • free transmission of Maricopa Community College transcripts to ASU;
  • access to dedicated advising for TEALL students, special TEALL program events, and college and university student services; and,
  • eligibility to apply for TEALL student scholarships.
As of today, there are over 200 participants in the TEALL student database. TEALL events in the past ten months have included an ASU Alliance football game (where students received free tickets), three student orientations, and two workshops about applying to ASU. Upcoming events include two more student orientations, additional workshops, invitations to events at ASU and free entrance to ASU women’s and men’s basketball games.

Visit the TEALL website for more information.
