Teacher Education Alliance Student Orientations
The Teacher Education Alliance (TEALL) kicked off this inaugural year’s activities with three student orientations held at each ASU campus (Tempe, West and Polytechnic). Administrators from Maricopa Community Colleges and ASU, including Kate Dillon Hogan, Dr. Cheri St. Arnauld, Maggie Tolan and Dr. Elaine Surbeck, welcomed students and guests. An overview of the Alliance/TEALL program, explanation of TEALL benefits and ASU’s professional program options, and information needed to successfully transfer to ASU as a TEALL student were presented by Maricopa faculty and ASU academic advisors specifically assigned to the TEALL program. Additionally, students participated in team building activities, and had the chance to meet individually with ASU advisors in order to assist with their successful transition from a Maricopa Community College to one of the ASU campuses.
Ninety-three students attended one of the orientations that are required in order to transfer to ASU as a TEALL student or qualify to receive Alliance/TEALL targeted scholarships.
According to evaluations:
- 99% of students felt the orientations provided a clear explanation of program benefits, requirements and key contacts
- 98% of students found the TEALL website helpful and easy to navigate
Comments on evaluations include:
- “It was a wonderful and informative presentation.”
- “Very good! Everyone seems so nice and willing to help.”
- “Thank all of the presenters. I enjoyed the presentation very much and greatly appreciate all of the hard work that went into the Alliance. Thank you!”
- “At first I didn’t want to come, but I’m really glad I did. It has been very helpful.”
Future TEALL events will include educational workshops covering such topics as writing an effective resume, obtaining professional letters of recommendation, and possibly a tour of the ASU campuses.
