The National
Center for Teacher Education (NCTE) provides and inspires leadership through
innovative teacher education initiatives by working collaboratively to advance
the quality of teaching and learning in Arizona and the nation. This site is
designed as a resource for teacher education faculty and students. Please see
the links above to learn more about NCTE’s mission and projects, Maricopa
Community College’s teacher education programs, and teaching in Arizona.
Local
NCTE is a department within the Academic and Student Affairs Division of the
Maricopa County Community College District. NCTE supports the teacher education
program faculty and staff of Maricopa Community Colleges as they prepare future
educators for employment in Arizona, and enhance the knowledge and skills of
current educators. NCTE is also involved in numerous local projects and
partnerships that promote Maricopa Community Colleges as a leader and viable
partner within the community. NCTE provides leadership for the Maricopa Community Colleges-Arizona State University Teacher Education Alliance (TEALL)and the Council for Teacher Education (CTE), both of which are geared
toward defining and simplifying student experiences as they move into, through
and/or out of Maricopa Community Colleges. The Communication in Science Inquiry Project (CISIP)is a grant project that provides for the production of professional
development resources for community college, high school, and middle school
faculty.
State
The Teacher
Education Partnership Commission (TEPC) is a
statewide initiative which addresses PreK-12 recruitment,
preparation and retention issues in the state of Arizona, and responds as a
partnership in the establishment of programs and services. NCTE provides
support for the TEPC in the form of meeting and event planning, and the production
of materials and reports. With the goal of increasing technological literacy in
secondary education, the Achieving Technological Literacy
in Arizona for Students and Teachers (ATLAST) Project provides teachers and
future teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare students for an
increasingly technology-driven society.
