Phoenix College

The Phoenix College Teacher Education Program (PCTEP) is designed to provide students interested in working in preK-12 schools the first two years of required foundation coursework that will transfer to a four-year institution. Courses offer students the opportunity to learn about educational concepts and engage in field experiences.

Core education courses include:

• EDU 220-minimum of 15 field experience hours
• EDU 221-minimum of 30 field experience hours
• EDU 222- minimum of 10 field experience hours

Associate in Arts in Elementary Education (AAEE)

The AAEE degree is designed for students who plan to transfer to an elementary, early childhood or special education program at an Arizona public university and/or who plan to become a classroom instructional aide. The AAEE transfers as a block without loss of credit to Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona.

Associate in Arts (AA)

The AA is a general degree, most appropriate for students pursuing a degree in secondary education or for students with transfer credits seeking an elementary, early childhood or special education degree. An AA degree will transfer to any state or private university.

Structured English Immersion

The Structured English Immersion (SEI) Training Program provides the necessary coursework for current teachers to acquire a provisional and/or full endorsement by the Arizona Department of Education. Courses are taught on-site or at Phoenix College by certified instructors.

Future Teachers Club

The Phoenix College Future Teachers Club provides support activities for future early childhood, elementary and secondary educators through service learning projects with local schools, informational meetings with university advisors, mentoring relationships with Phoenix College faculty, and contact with dynamic educational leaders in our community.

Phoenix College Preparatory College

Phoenix College Preparatory Academy (PCPA), formerly Teacher Preparation High School, was established by the Maricopa County Community College District and is housed and supported by Phoenix College. PCPA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), an accreditation division of AdvancED, and is rated a Performing Plus school by the AZ Department of Education. Phoenix College’s Child & Family Studies Program is designed to offer students the following degrees, focused certificates and course offerings that support career paths in Early Childhood Education, Family Development and Adolescent Studies:

  • Associate of Arts (AA) Transfer Pathway to Bachelors of Education Early Childhood (Birth-PreK and K-3) Teacher Certification and Endorsement

  • 33 credit Certificate of Completion in Early Child hood Education & Administration or Family Development
  • 6-12 credit Certificate of Completion in Early Childhood Classroom Management, Curriculum for Young Children, Adolescent Studies or Family Support
