Introduction| Eligibility| Benefits| Conclusion

Arizona State University (ASU) and the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) established the Alliance (www.maricopa.edu/alliance) as a "new and unique partnership designed to meet the higher education needs of the state of Arizona and Valley of the Sun residents." The Alliance partnership was developed to facilitate access to higher education, and to increase the numbers of students completing associate and baccalaureate degrees.

The Teacher Education Alliance (TEALL) was created in January 2004 and is currently one of five groups within the Alliance. The TEALL program’s primary goal is to increase the number of students who complete associate and baccalaureate degrees in education to meet the growing demand for highly qualified teachers throughout Maricopa County and Arizona. Active student recruitment and program registration began in April 2006. As of May 2008, 39 students had effectively transferred as TEALL students from a participating Maricopa College to a college of education at ASU, and one TEALL student had graduated from ASU with a baccalaureate degree in education.

The TEALL Work Group has focused on developing:

  • more effective pathways for students;
  • more effective student service opportunities that capitalize on and expand currently existing partnerships and programs; and
  • recruitment and retention procedures to ensure greater levels of participation and completion.

TEALL partners include eight of the ten Maricopa Community Colleges and the three education programs at ASU's Tempe, Polytechnic, and West campuses.
