Dr. Bel Quiros-Winemiller
APIA Honorary Advisor

Dr. Bel Quiros-Winemiller was born in Panama City, Panama. Her father, who is Chinese from Canton, and her mother, who is Panamanian, always made sure that Bel grew up in a bicultural setting.  From an early age, her life was enriched by the Panamanian culture until she was ready to go to the University. She learned Spanish and French, and then decided to come to the United States in 1977.

In this country, Dr. Quiros-Winemiller felt the need to learn English and get in touch with her Chinese heritage. While in the United States, she became an active member of APIA, and then became the President of APIA  in 2000.  Under her leadership as President, APIA held a student scholarship gala that raised over $10,000.00 for API students in MCCD.

Dr. Quiros-Winemiller is a faculty member at the Glendale Community College where she teaches Spanish within the Foreign Language Department.  In 1989, 2000 and later in 2002, she had the opportunity to study Chinese at Anhui Daxue, Remin Daxue and Wuyi Daxue.
