Ms. Loida Harkness
APIA Secretary


Loida is a native of the Philippines.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting (B.S.A.) from the University of the East in Manila, Philippines.  Loida arrived in the United States in 1988.  Married and with one son, she enrolled at Mesa Community College (MCC) and in 1992 graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in Microcomputer Business Applications.

While a student at MCC, Loida served as the Secretary of the Asian-American Students Club and worked closely with the faculty advisors:  Arunee Grow and Lo-An Tabar-Gaul.  During her time at MCC, Loida was actively involved in many events promoting Asian culture, diversity, volunteerism, and more importantly, helping Asian students assimilate into American society.  Loida was also voted as MCC's Student of the Year in 1992.

Loida is currently working at MCCCD Compensation Department as a Senior Human Resource Analyst.  This is Loida’s first year as an officer for APIA and she is very eager to contribute in any capacity to help the organization.
