DR. LY T. L.TRAN NGUYEN
APIA Co-President


Ly came to the United States with her family from Vietnam in 1975 as a political refugee and has resided in Arizona since then.

Ly graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.S. degree in Psychology in 1991 and both her MA. and Ph.D. degrees in Behavioral Neuroscience from Arizona State University in 1993 and 1997, respectively. Subsequently, she was awarded an NRSA grant from the National Institutes of Health to conduct drug research as a postdoctoral fellow at Arizona State from 1997-2000.

Ly conducted research on the underlying neural mechanisms of cocaine craving and has authored numerous journal articles on the topic. She has also received travel awards from Women in Neuroscience and the National Institute of Drug Addiction to present her research at national conferences.

From 2000 to the present, Ly is a faculty member in the Psychology Department and the Co-Coordinator of the Psychology Instructional Resource Center at Mesa Community College. She is also an active member of APIA who served as the immediate past secretary and is serving as the co-president-elect.

Ly is married and has two children. Her passions are spending time with her family and teaching.
