Ruth Yandell graduated from Silliman University (cum laude) with a B.A. degree in piano performance, from Philippine Women's University with a B.M. in piano and a M.M. degree in piano performance from Western Michigan University. She came to the United States as a Fulbright scholar, was a music fellow at Western Michigan University and was also an Aspen School of Music scholar.
Ruth has been listed in Who's Who in Classical Music & Who's Who of American Music. She has Professional certification from the Music Teachers National Association. Her solo performances include performances with the Battle Creek Symphony, Western Michigan Chamber Orchestra and the Phoenix Chamber Orchestra. In February 2003, Ruth will be the featured piano soloist with the Civic Orchestra of Tucson. She is also an organist and was organist at Scottsdale Methodist Church for 10 years.
As an active member of APIA, she is presently the immediate past president. Currently, she is the Piano Department Coordinator and faculty at the Mesa Community College Music Department. She is a member of MCCD's Diversity Advisory Council and Faculty Recruitment Commission as well as MCC's Scholarship and International Education committees. She has authored the following books: Keyboard Technique, Levels I & II and An Introduction to Music Theory with Worksheets.
Ruth is married to Dr. David Yandell, a psychologist with Arizona Biodyne, currently chair of the Arizona Psychology Board, and an avid supporter of APIA. They have two sons, Eric who is a network administrator, and Scott who is an adjunct faculty at MCC's Music Department.
