Description of APIA Scholarship

The APIA Scholarship is to provide financial support to Asian/Asian American students who aspire to higher education.

Eligible applicant:

  1. Has to be a student at one of the colleges under the MCCD system when he/she applies and during the semester when the awarded scholarship is used.

Necessary Documents to Submit

  1. Complete application form.

  2. Most updated unofficial transcript of the MCCD college the applicant is currently attending. (Records Office carries your unofficial transcript.)

  3. Unofficial transcript of the college or high school which the applicant previously attended if the transcript described in (2) shows the grades of less than 12 credit hours of academic courses.

  4. English translation of the unofficial transcripts if they are not written in English.

  5. Letter of recommendations from an officer of the organization if applying for Community Involvement Scholarship.

General Criteria of Selection

  1. Applicants who failed to submit all necessary documents and/or who submitted the documents in an incomplete manner will be disqualified.

  2. Applicants will be evaluated and ranked according to their most current cumulative GPA, number of credit hours completed, description and completeness of short essays (Section 4-9 in application), and extracurricular activities/community involvement.

Criteria of Each Scholarship

Criteria: Applicants must have a 3.5 GPA minimum, have completed at least 12 credit hours at MCCD colleges, and be currently enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours.

Criteria: Applicants must demonstrate community service by listing all organizations previously or currently involved within the college or community environment, must provide a letter of recommendation from an officer of the organization(s) in which he/she has served, and be currently enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours.           

Criteria: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an ESL course, but not have exceeded 20 ESL credit hrs.
