NOTE: It is up to each taxpayer to determine their individual eligibility for the credits. Calculation of the credit is also up to the individual taxpayer. Maricopa Community Colleges cannot advise you on how to claim the credit.

For tax year 2007, Maricopa Community Colleges is required to report specific information on the form and to provide that information to the IRS. In accordance with the rules for information reporting, colleges and universities choose one of two possible reporting approaches:

  1. Payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses --or--
  2. Amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses

Maricopa Community Colleges, along with a vast majority of institutions across the country, elects to report the amount the student was billed during 2007. Since Maricopa Community Colleges has elected this method of reporting, there will be no amounts reported in Box 1 of Form 1098-T. Amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses during 2007 will appear in Box 2 of the form. Prior year adjustments (if any) appear in Box 4.
