The Workforce Development department plays a vital role in enhancing the region's competitive strength by connecting the programs, resources, and customizable training services of the ten Community Colleges and two skill centers with the region's employers.
IT Workforce Needs Forum
A forum was held on October 11, 2012 to seek employer input on required knowledge and skills of future information technology workers. There were 60 invited participants including 15 industry members, seven from government agencies, 35 educators (from the Maricopa Community Colleges and one skill center), and three economic developers.
The Arizona Tech Council opened the event and informed the audience of issues arising from their recent study of the Arizona Technology Workforce. The “bottom line” of the study suggests that the Arizona Technology Workforce Study has put to rest a number of myths about the size and cause of the “technology talent gap” in Arizona.
