Recent years have seen an unprecedented collaboration of talent, investment, and partnership in the biosciences in Greater Phoenix. Driven by major regional investments such as the International Genomics Consortium, Translational Genomics Research Institute, Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix, the Greater Phoenix region has emerged as an important location for growth in the biosciences. These investments promise economic wealth and prosperity, a higher-waged, technology-driven employment base, and medical advancements for Arizona residents.
The Maricopa Community Colleges are committed to providing a trained workforce to support the growth of the biosciences in the Greater Phoenix region. Certificate and associate in applied science programs offered through the Maricopa Community College system include biotechnology and molecular biosciences, clinical laboratory sciences, histologic technology, and clinical research coordinating. Arizona Bioscience Workforce Strategy
Recognizing the state of Arizona’s bioscience workforce needs, the Maricopa Community Colleges co-sponsored a study by the Battelle Memorial Institute’s Technology Partnership Practice to create a state workforce development strategy in the biosciences. Released in October of 2003, this study puts in place a strategic approach for addressing identified needs and opportunities for bioscience workforce development in the state of Arizona.
