Health Services

Jobs in the health services industry provide medical assistance to people. Health services employees work in hospitals, doctors’ offices, nursing homes, and medical labs. It is one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing industries—demand for jobs is expected to grow as the nation’s 80 million Baby Boomers approach retirement age.

Experts say more than half of the fastest growing jobs in the U.S. in the next 10 years are in health services. Demand for health services workers in the Greater Phoenix area is expected to mirror the nationwide growth of these jobs. Depending on the health services career you choose, many states require health services employees to be certified in their profession.

The Maricopa Community Colleges offer over 50 degree and certificate programs in nursing and allied health fields such as EMT, pharmacy, dentistry, medical office, and medical technology. Maricopa’s commitment to health services education has led it to create a Department of Health Care Education within its division of Academic Affairs. This department is responsible for coordinating district-wide health services initiatives and working with the local healthcare community to meet workforce needs. For more specific information about health services enrollment and programs available through the Maricopa Community Colleges, please go to the Health Care Education website.
