Greater Phoenix High Tech Manufacturing Workforce Study
The Maricopa
Community Colleges Center for Workforce Development and Salt River Project
are the
co-visionary sponsors of an extensive study to examine
the future of Maricopa's high tech manufacturing industry. The study
is designed to identify ways in which high tech manufacturing jobs can
remain and grow in Maricopa.
Maricopa's high tech manufacturing industry, once a major economic force, appears
to be making a steady comeback. The study is designed to find answers for education
(what are the future workforce needs for employers and employees in this sector
so education and training can keep pace) and for businesses (what will the findings
tell us in terms of businesses making key decisions about growing here).
The study focuses on several high tech sectors including semiconductor/electronic
instruments, aerospace, telecommunications, advanced composites, bio/medical
devices and sustainable systems.
The study's collaborative partners include: ADOC, GPEC, City of Phoenix Workforce
Investment Board; Maricopa County Workforce Investment Board; ASU Ira A. Fulton
School of Engineering, AAI, Flinn Foundation, AEA- Arizona Chapter, ATC, ADOE
Career and Technical Education, Arizona High Tech Cluster.
The Battelle Corporation will conduct the industry assessment study. Battelle
conducted a study in 2002 that provided the roadmap for Arizona's Biotech industry.
