COUNSELING CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES

APRIL 12, 2000

 

 

Members Present: Barbara Gordon

Cordelia Wright

Jeannie Wyatt, Chair

Member absent: Joseph Bednorz

 

1. Approval of Minutes

Joseph Bednorz reported that the March minutes are not ready for review so he will forward a draft to the committee next week.

 

2. Course Concepts

Concept papers will be presented to CIC on April 18, 2000. The papers will be forwarded to the Curriculum Committee in the fall.

 

3. Objective A: Web Site for Curriculum Committee

Each month the approved committee meeting minutes are added to the web site. Jeannie Wyatt included the checklist for the CPD and BHS Course Review Process. Therefore, the objective to maintain the web site is being accomplished.

 

4. Objective B: Course Articulation with University of Arizona

Rene Barrios was informed by Dr. Mary Briden that UA officials will not review CPD courses in mass to determine if they can transfer as elective credit. The next deadline for submitting courses for review is August 1. Curriculum members identified four courses that they want to submit for the August 1 deadline. These are:

CPD 150 Strategies for College Success (3 credits)

CPD 104 Career and Personal Development (3 credits)

CPD 103BL Dynamics of Leadership (2 credits)

CPD 102AB Career Exploration (2 credits)

 

Jeannie will check with Rene Barrios about the Curriculum Committee taking a lead role in working directly with Dr. Briden to get these courses reviewed by UA in late summer.

 

5. Objective C: Curriculum Review Process

Five completed course review checklists were submitted and reviewed. The courses being reviewed and responsible group leaders are:

CPD 103BA Women in Transition Ava Jensen

CPD 104 Career and Personal Development Debbie Pina

CPD 267 Introduction to Play Therapy Cordelia Wright

CPD 268 Grief and Bereavement Issues Cordelia Wright

CPD 269 Grief and Counseling Techniques Cordelia Wright

There are some questions about the course modifications submitted for CPD104. Jeannie will contact Debbie Pina to gain clarification before notifying CIC that the review process of CPD 104 is complete.

 

6. Revised New Course Proposal by Jeff Roser/Austin

Cori met with Jeff and gave suggestions for revisions on the proposed course entitled "Survival in the Career Jungle." He has not re-submitted a revised proposal.

 

7. Objective D: Research Internet Based Counseling Courses

Work on objective D will continue as part of the committee's work plan for 2000-2001

 

8. Draft of End-0f-Year Report

Jeannie provided a draft of the report and asked committee members to read the draft and provide suggestions by April 26. Jeannie will send a copy to Joseph.

 

9. Other

April 12 represents the last meeting date for the academic year, 1999-2000. Plans for next year were briefly discussed. Barbara, Cori and Jeannie agreed to serve on the Curriculum Committee next year in order to complete work on the two-year plan. Jeannie will check with Joseph and ask him if he is willing to serve another year. Those present agreed that the second Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. is a good meeting day and time. Jeannie will make room reservations for next fall and spring.
