Members Present: Jeannie Wyatt (SCC) and Cori Wright (SMCC)
Absent: Stephanie Fujii (EMCC) and Barbara Gordon (MCC)
1. November minutes were reviewed and approved with two (2) minor
changes in wording.
2. Course reviews and proposed modifications. CPD104 and CPD110
were discussed. CPD110 - Assessment & Planning University Transfer
was submitted for modification review. Dr. Tom Dugan (SCC) assessed the
course and found that "after careful review there is nothing that
needs to be changed at this time." He routinely surveys students enrolled
in the course who suggest that the course is fine as is. Dr. Dugan recommended
no changes at this time. The Curriculum Committee concurs and recommends
approval. Cori Wright will take this to CIC.
Debbie Pina and her team of counselors resubmitted CPD104 - Career and
Personal Development for modification review. Changes were reviewed. All
changes seemed appropriate, and none of the changes had any effect on the
title, description, or competencies. The Committee concurs with the suggested
changes and recommends approval. Cori will take this to the CIC for approval.
The BHS268 - Grief and Bereavement Issues course modification proposal
was moved to the February agenda. As discussed in the November meeting,
it should go forward as a joint proposal with BHS269 - Grief Counseling
Techniques. The Committee discussed the prerequisite/co-requisite criteria
and recommends using BHS269 as a pre or co-requisite rather than BHS105
- Introduction to Human Relations as it currently stands.
3. Counseling Curriculum Committee Web Site Process for Course Modification
Process. The Committee discussed recommendations made in the November
meeting and found additional changes needed to further clarify the process.
Another draft is to be sent to Barbara Gordon and Stephanie Fujii for their
perusal and input. The process proposal should be finalized at the February
meeting.
4. CPD150 - Student Success Strategies Course Evaluation by University
of Arizona. Pursuant to recommendations from Don Richardson's office,
Jeannie Wyatt is compiling material for UA promoting the CPD150 course
for acceptance as elective transfer credit. This process is modeled after
the CPD160 packet submitted and approved by ASU as an AGEC Cultural requirement.
Jeannie Wyatt collected a number of syllabi from various MCCD counselors,
created a cover sheet, and drafted a rationale statement. The Committee
reviewed a list of reference books for an Instructor Resource List and
chose three (3) sample syllabi to be included in the packet. Thanks are
in order for syllabi contributions from EMCC, MCC, PV, SCC, and GCC. Everything
should be ready to go to Don Richardson at District in early January.
5. The Committee took a close look at the new CPD250 Course Proposal
developed by Marianne Roccaforte (PVCC). Because there were a number
of questions posed by CIC and this body, the Committee feels that it warrants
closer examination with the course developer. Jeannie Wyatt will serve
as the liaison and meet with Marianne in January. Jeannie will also seek
additional input from Stephanie Fujii and Barbara Gordon.
6. Group Review Leaders for 2001. Donna Mosher and Brian
Belsher have agreed to serve as course review leaders for CPD102AA and
CPD102AD respectively.
7. CPD160 - Introduction to Multiculturalism. Stephanie
Fujii submitted material to be used in seeking acceptance of CPD160 as
Liberal Studies credit at Northern Arizona University. This will be
next thrust of transfer credit opportunities to be addressed in the Spring
2001 semester.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 PM
