COUNSELING CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES

Wednesday, October 11, 2000

2:00 - 4:00 PM, Hopper room

1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A draft of the September meeting minutes was reviewed with a few minor corrections made and approved. Jeannie will post the approved September minutes on the Counseling Curriculum Committee web site.

2. COUNSELING CURRICULUM MEMBERSHIP

Stephanie Fujii from Estrella Mountain Campus agreed to serve on the curriculum committee. She is a welcomed addition to the group.

3. REVIEW OF COURSE MODIFICATIONS

Course review checklists and attached documentation for four BHS courses were submitted by Cori Wright, review leader.

BHS 151 Communication Skills in Counseling

Changes made to outline

BHS 267 Play Therapy

Changes made to course title, prerequisites, competencies and outline

BHS 268 Grief and Bereavement Issues

Changes made to course corequisite, competencies and outline

BHS 269 Grief Counseling Techniques

Suggestions were made for clarifying modifications made to BHS 268 and BHS 269. Cori will resubmit those course review checklists at the in November meeting. Jeannie Wyatt will notify CIC Chair of the completed BHS 151 and 267 reviews.

4. SPECIAL TOPICS GUIDELINES

Ava Jensen received approval from CIC to draft Guidelines and Procedures for offering CPD195AA and CPD 195AB Special Topics Courses. These one-half credit and one credit courses enable departments to respond in a timely manner to requests for short-term instruction to meet the needs of a special population or address a contemporary topic of interest to students, staff or employers.

CCC members support the approval of Guidelines and Procedures for Use Of Special Topics Courses by CIC.

5. COMMITTEE WEB SITE

Jeannie asked for suggestions to improve the Counseling Curriculum Committee web site which is part of the CIC home page. One suggestion was to add a link to the MCCCD course bank for easy access to CPD and BHS course descriptions, competencies and outlines. The CCC membership list also needs to be updated.

6. CPD COURSE STATUS WITH UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA

Dr. Mary Briden will inform us of any new developments.

7. Other

Next meeting is scheduled for November 8, 2000 at 2:00 PM in the Hopper Room.
