Members present:
- Barbara Gordon, MCC
- Cori Wright, SMCC
- Jeannie Wyatt, SCC
Follow-up from Academic Year 1999-2000
Jeannie reported that the Year-End Report was distributed to the Counseling
Instructional Council in May. Counseling chairs agreed to strongly support
counselor participation on all district committees reporting to CIC. Chairs
voiced their support for the continuation of the CIC web site and links
to committee sites.
During the summer, four CPD courses were submitted to an UA evaluator
to determine if these courses are appropriate for elective credit. If approved,
this decision represents a change from NT, nontransferable status, in the
course equivalency guide. The review request was submitted through the
office of Dr. Mary Briden. Jeannie will ask for an update on the UA evaluation
process.
Joseph Bednorz submitted his resignation to the Counseling Curriculum
Committee. Jeannie forwarded an email response thanking Jospeh for his
contributions and asked him to assist with finding a replacement from GCC.
No reply has been received at this time.
Curriculum Committee Membership
Jeannie expressed concern about the limited number of counselors serving
on the Counseling Curriculum Committee and the lack of representation from
the several of the larger college. She sent an email to several chairs
at the beginning of the semester. Cori suggested names of specific counselors
from several campuses and volunteered to contact those individuals about
participation on the CCC.
Work Plan - Objective A: Web site for Curriculum Committee
The web site is functioning but it does need to be updated and maintained
throughout the year. Jeannie will be responsible this year.
Work Plan - Objective B: Course Articulation with University of Arizona
Four CPD courses were submitted to UA for review this summer. These
are CPD 102AB, 103BL, 104 and 150. No update has been received from Dr.
Mary Briden or members of her staff. Jeannie will inquire about the status
of these four courses.
Work Plan - Objective C: Curriculum Review Process
Jeannie sent a cover letter and materials to counselors who serve as
group leaders for those CPD and BHS courses that are being reviewed this
calendar year. The group review leaders and their respective courses are
as follows:
- Fred Wieck CPD 102AH and CPD 102AR
- Jim Rubin CPD 103BL
- Debbie Pina CPD 104
- Tom Dugan CPD 110
- Barbara Gordon CPD 126
- Cori Wright BHS 105, 151, 265, 266
Cori thought some misunderstanding may have occurred as the result of
the cover letter. Group leaders may need clarification regarding the time
line for completing their work. Jeannie agreed to contact the leaders and
assure them that the time line for completing the review work is December
15 but MCCCD Board approval for course modifications does not need to occur
until end of the 2001 Spring Semester.
Work Plan - Objective D: Research Internet Based Counseling Courses
No additional work will be done on this objective until the CCC determines
membership and scope of work tasks for this academic year.
Other
Cori asked for CCC support to explore the issue of changing the prefix
and title of CPD courses. She will talk with CIC about the merits of updating
CPD course prefix and title.
Cori asked to place course modifications for BHS 105 and 151 on the
agenda for the October meeting.
Jeannie alerted members to Ava Jensen's work in progress on special
topics courses. She will forward special topics course proposal, one credit
and one-half credit, in October, along with procedural guidelines. Jeannie
also mentioned the CAS evaluation process occurring at the campus and district
levels this fall. It is possible some conclusions may involve curriculum
needs.
