Curriculum Process for Course Modification
of
Counseling &Personal Development (CPD) and Behavioral Health (BHS)
Courses
While a counselor serves as a course initiator for a course being revised,
he/she is encouraged to involve and work collaboratively with other counselors
who had previously taught or who are currently teaching the course being
revised.
The following steps detail the procedure for modifying a course.
Step One
Curriculum initiator works with the college curriculum designer or technician
at his or her college to create the course modification proposal. It is
then sent to the Counseling Curriculum Committee.
Step Two
The Counseling Curriculum Committee reviews the proposal. If the Committee
believes that the course modification proposal needs to be strengthened,
it is returned to the initiator with suggestions. Otherwise the proposal
moves forward.
Step Three
The Counseling Curriculum Committee Chair forwards the course modification
proposal to CIC for review and approval. Discussion is held during a regularly
scheduled CIC meeting. If CIC approves the proposal, it is returned to
the campus and continues through the regular campus approval process for
modified curriculum. If the modification is not approved by CIC it is returned
to the course initiator with recommendations for course revision.
Step Four
The College Curriculum Committee reviews the course modification proposal.
If changes are recommended at this level, the proposal is then returned
to the course initiator for further revision, and then back to CIC for
approval.
Step Five
The District Curriculum Committee reviews the course modification proposal.
Step Six
MCCD Governing Board approves new courses.
