Counseling Curriculum Committee

Minutes of September 17, 2001

 

Attended by: Cori Wright (SMCC), Stephanie Fujii (EMCC) and Cynthia Steele (PC).

 

I. Minutes & CIC Website

Information was shared about the CIC website, and the posting of the CCC's (Counseling Curriculum Committee) minutes on that website. The website's address is: www.sc.maricopa.edu/cic/ Ava Jensen at SCC and the website master, has graciously offered to facilitate the process of posting the minutes for us.

 

Reviewed the CCC representatives for this year. They are Cori Wright (SMCC), Cynthia Steele (PC), Stephanie Fujii (EMCC), Fred Wieck (PVCC), Marjane Maton (GCC) and Marianne Auten (PVCC). Cynthia will serve as Chair, and Stephanie will act as Secretary, taking the minutes. Cori will serve as CCC's liaison to CIC.

 

The schedule of meetings was articulated as taking place the first Monday of the month at 1:30pm at the MCCD District Building. The meetings for this semester will be on Oct. 1, Nov. 5, and Dec. 3.

 

II. 2001-2002 Work Plan & Focus

October 12 is the deadline for curriculum to be reviewed for Spring 2002. The Committee reviewed past work plans, and what movement had been made. Priority for this semester's focus will be dictated by finishing work on what needs to be completed from the past. Work plans from January 2000-December 2000 included the following courses, which as of September 2001, need further action:

CCC will work with the facilitators and CIC to encourage movement/action on these courses. In addition to working towards final approval of these courses through the curriculum process, CCC will:

 

1) Help facilitate action on those courses from previous year's work plans which were not completed (concluded with final approval by CIC.)

2) Prepare CPD 160 for NAU evaluation as meeting their liberal studies requirements for 2002-2003.

3) Attempt to create a web component for CPD 101 & CPD 103.

4) Explore the development of a web CPD course (on-line) as a pilot/CPD 195AB Special Topics course.

 

III. New Course Review Process

 

The steps involved in the creation of new courses is on the website. CCC reviewed and discussed it. Everyone felt positive about the process and saw no need for additions and/or revisions at this time.

 

IV. Curriculum Review & Modification Process

 

The steps involved for curriculum review and the modification process for existing courses is on the website. CCC reviewed and discussed it. Everyone felt positive about the process and saw no need for additions and/or revisions at this time.

 

V. End of Year Report 2000-2001

 

The committee read through the year-end report and discussed appropriate course of action regarding objectives, accomplishments and recommendations. The committee acknowledged the challenge in communicating and tracking the outcome of curriculum evaluation once it leaves CCC. CCC and the liaison from CCC to CIC will work to do a better job of ensuring that CIC follows through on action.

 

VI. Carry Over items from 2000-2001

 

Carry over items (some which were mentioned in our future work plans) for future consideration by CCC are the following:

 

1) Help facilitate action on those courses from previous year's work plans which were not completed (concluded with final approval by CIC.)

1) Prepare CPD 160 for NAU evaluation as meeting their liberal studies requirements for 2002-2003.

2) Establish two-year work plans.

 

Meeting adjourned at approximately 3:30pm. Next meeting will be on Monday, Oct. 1 at 1:30 in the Hopper Room (457) on the 4th Floor of District.
