Automotive Power Trains
Designed for beginning automotive students. Operation, diagnosis, service, and repair of the automotive power train. Includes clutches, torque converters, standard and automatic transmissions and transaxles, front and rear drive axles, drive shafts, differentials and transfer case. Prerequisites: None.

1. Dress and work in a professionally safe manner. (I)

3. Operate hand tools, power tools and automotive equipment, conforming to safety standards. (II)
4. Take basic measurements and convert between commonly used measurement units. (II)
5. Identify and use common measuring tools, including vernier calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators. (II)
6. Explain how hears multiply torque and compute gear ratios. (III)
7. Explain power flow through clutches, transmission, transaxles, drive lines, transfer cases, differentials and drive axles. (III)
8. Identify the component parts of clutches, transmissions, transaxles, drive lines, transfer cases, differentials and drive axles. (III)
9. Diagnose, inspect, service, recondition and repair clutch malfunctions. (IV)
10. Diagnose, inspect, service, and repair transmission and transaxle malfunctions. (V)
11. Diagnose, inspect, adjust and service bearing malfunctions. (V)
12. Remove and replace automatic transmissions and torque converters. (VI)
13. Diagnose, inspect, service, and repair front drive axles, including constant velocity joints. (VII)
14. Diagnose, inspect and service or replace front wheel bearings. (VII)
15. Diagnose, inspect, service, and repair drive lines and universal joints. (VIII)
16. Diagnose, inspect, service, adjust, repair, and rebuild differentials. (IX)
17. Diagnose, inspect, service, and replace rear drive axles, seals and bearings. (IX)
18. Diagnose, inspect, service, repair, and rebuild four-wheel-drive transfer case. (X)
