Application of the computer system functions and programs of the Social Security Disability program. Knowledge and skills to apply for application process, case files, databases and other informational sources.

Prerequisites: Current employment with Arizona Department of Economic Security, Disability Determination Services Administration. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.

1.          Spell, define and pronounce the anatomical terms of various body systems. (I)

2.          Describe the structural and functional organizations of the various body systems. (I)

3.          Use standard medical prefixes and suffixes accurately. (I)

4.          Identify the major functions and structures and related word roots of body organs and systems. (I)

5.          Spell, define, analyze, and interpret abbreviations and medical terms commonly used for each body system. (I)

6.          Define, analyze, and interpret abbreviations commonly used in human anatomy, disease classification, and procedural terminology. (I)

7.          Define, analyze, spell, and interpret medical terms commonly used for each specialty field of medicine and for disease processes. (II)

8.          Describe homeostasis, control mechanisms, and common physiologic effects of disease in the human body. (IV)

9.          Identify the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and long- and short-term effects of disease processes on the human body, including treatments and therapies. (IV)

10.        Describe the current DSM nomenclature in the classification of abnormal behavior. (III)

11.        Describe the functions of the mental (psychological) system. (IV)

12.        Define assessment techniques used in abnormal psychology. (III)

13.        Describe major diagnostic criteria, theories, and treatments of psychological disorders. (III)

14.        Identify routes of exposure of the human body to environmental, chemical, hazardous waste, toxins, pollution, and microorganism contaminants. (IV)

15.        Interpret medical records, case histories, and written and oral communications pertaining to disability claims. (V, VI)

16.        Demonstrate ability to properly use the PDR, Merck Manual, Dorland’s Medical Dictionary, and other medical references. (V, VI)
