Disability Examiner Services: Level VI

Advanced application of the medical terms used in healthcare using a body systems approach to selected terms related to structures, functions, diseases, procedures, and diagnostic tests. Emphasis on advanced terminology used in determining Social Security Disability including the use of medical abbreviations, symbols and spelling of terminology.

Prerequisites: Current employment with Arizona Department of Economic Security, Disability Determination Services Administration. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.

1.          Spell, define and pronounce the anatomical terms of various body systems. (I)

2.          Describe the structural and functional organizations of the various body systems. (I)

3.          Interpret and analyze actual medical documents. (I-IV)

4.          Read and interpret medical terms from commonly used verbal and written materials and communications. (II)

5.          Interpret medical records, case histories, and written and oral communications pertaining to disability claims. (II)

6.          Describe the nature of special medical issues and/or conditions. (III)

7.          Describe the structural, functional, and normal variants in the body that may produce disease. (III)

8.          Define speech and language levels and the basic anatomy of speech production. (III)

11.        Identify the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and long- and short-term effects of disease processes on the human body, including treatments and therapies. (IV)

12.        Explain routes of exposure of the human body to environmental, chemical, hazardous waste, toxins, pollution, and microorganism contaminants. (IV)
