Introduction to Employment Support
Roles and responsibilities of the Employment Support Specialist. Philosophy and values of employment support systems. Procedures and practices for establishing relationships with trainees, identifying suitable employment and assisting the trainee in learning the job for job acquisition. Prerequisites: None.

1. Describe the role and responsibilities of the employment support specialist. (I)
2. Describe specific agency's orientations processes. (II)
3. Describe the identification and contacting of specific professional employment support networks and resources. (III)
4. Describe the characteristics and safety needs of specific persons with disabilities in the employment setting. (IV)
5. Define "normalization" and explain basic normalization related to employment of persons with disabilities. (V)
6. Describe employment support models and assess quality of specific employment sites. (VI)
7. Describe employer perspectives regarding the employment of persons with disabilities. (VII)
8. Explain perspectives of specific trainees with disabilities regarding supported employment. (VIII)
9. Define "advocacy", describe the role of "advocate" related to employment of persons with disabilities in the community and establish relationships with employer and trainee. (IX)
10. Describe a Vocational Profile and write composites of specific trainees in relation to employment developed from Vocational Profiles utilizing information from trainees, professionals and significant others. (X)
11. Describe job matching procedures using specific Vocational Profiles and discuss "ideal" employment situations for those trainees. (XI)
12. Identify specific job sites for specific trainees. (XII)
13. Facilitate trainees with interviews for employment. (XIII)
14. Describe the purpose of employment support at work site orientations and complete Orientation Checklists, and plans for trainees' orientations. (XIV)
15. Develop job site analyses including work routines and accommodations for trainees. (XV)
16. Develop specific task analyses for work routines for trainees. (XVI)
17. Define "natural cues" and select natural cues for trainees and co-workers in employment settings. (XVII)
18. Given task analyses or inventories, conduct discrepancy analyses for trainees. (XVIII)
19. Given task analyses and discrepancy analyses, select data, forms and symbols for recording trainees' performances. (XIX)
20. Describe training assists and strategies to facilitate trainees' job acquisitions. (XX)
21. Define "reinforcement" and select/integrate reinforcers and fade artificial reinforcers for trainees' job acquisitions. (XXI)
22. Identify the need and develop plans for behavioral management for trainees' job acquisitions. (XXII)
23. Facilitate trainees' maintenance and/or increase in production for acquisition of a job. (XXIII)
24. Develop and implement plans for trainees' evaluation, supervision, support and employment changes (follow-along). (XXIV)
