Principles of Light Horse Training
Use of equine behavior patterns in basic handling and control methods. Includes haltering, leading, bitting, longeing, saddling, bridling, mounting, and dismounting the green horse.
Prerequisites: EQS105, EQS140, and (EQS180 or EQS185), or permission of Department or Division.

1. Identify and describe the behavior patterns of the horse and identify how these patterns can be used to facilitate basic handling and control of the horse. (I)
2. Describe and demonstrate how actions and reactions of the handler create reactions from the horse. (I-III)
3. Identify and demonstrate effective use of common types of bits, bridles, saddles and other types of training equipment. (II)
4. Prepare and train a green horse for performance work under saddle in a safe and systematic order. (III)
