Nuclear Medicine Image Evaluation I

Emphasis on bone and respiratory system imaging. Evaluation of images related to clinical situations and procedures including patient history, patient preparation, name and energy of radiopharmaceutical, method of localization, dosimetry, and method of clearance. Normal and abnormal distribution. Need for additional views and/or procedures. Technical limitations, protocol and equipment parameters and procedure results. Sectional human anatomy. Emphasis on the upper and lower extremities.

Prerequisites: Admission to Nuclear Medicine Technology program.

Explain the patient history and patient preparation for bone and respiratory system procedures. (I)

Select the appropriate radiopharmaceutical for specific bone and respiratory system procedures. (II)

State the name, energy, and method of localization, dosimetry, and method of clearance of an identified radiopharmaceutical for a selected procedure. (II)

4.

Describe the images of a selected procedure to include normal distribution, abnormal distribution, artifacts, additional views, additional procedures, any technical limitations either patient or equipment. (III)

5.

Identify technical limitations and corrective actions. (IV)

6.

Explain the imaging protocol for a selected procedure to include indications, contraindications, and imaging procedure. (IV)

7.

Set equipment parameters for equipment used. (V)

8.

Identify anatomy in cross sectional views of the upper and lower extremities. (VI, VII)
