Clinical Practicum I
Orientation to the nuclear medicine department and the hospital. Routine department tasks: participating in patient transportation, scheduling, filing, observation of nuclear medicine studies, and radiation protection practices. Safety guidelines. Prerequisites: Admission to the Nuclear Medicine Program, or permission of program director or department chair.

1. Describe the organizational structure within the hospital, and departmental/hospital rules. (I)
2. Under general supervision, demonstrate proper patient processing procedures to include patient scheduling, processing of examination requests, patient transportation, and filing procedures. (II)
3. Demonstrate standard patient care techniques for patient observation and comfort to include charting, transporting, sterile asepsis, isolation and immobilization techniques. (III)
4. Describe proper radiation protection practices observed in the nuclear medicine department. (IV)
5. Observe specific nuclear medicine procedures. (V)
6. Demonstrate appropriate ethical, legal, and professional job-related behavior. (VI)
7. Communicate appropriately with patients, physicians, and other members of the health care team. (VII)
8. Comply with safety guidelines established by the appropriate Federal, State and other regulatory agencies. (VIII)
