Reflections on the Diversity Infusion Program -- Dr. Belinda Ramos - Professor of Psychology
"Without a doubt there are many rewarding aspects to being selected to participate in the Maricopa County Community College District Diversity Infusion program. As an educator I appreciate having a powerful teaching and learning tool in the form of the Participant’s Handbook which is full of relevant and up-to-date articles and activities for use in the classroom. I am also awed by the Diversity Collection, a compilation of close to 300 books, DVDs and tapes from the Nature of Prejudice by Gordon W. Allport to works by: Jorge Ramos, Martin Espada, Zora Neale Hurston and so many others who use the printed and spoken word to prod us to: 'thinking and acting with a spirit of inclusion'. However, what I appreciate most is the opportunity to spend this academic year working with close to two dozen faculty and students; who are willing to give of their time and energies to ensure that the courses we offer at Maricopa move past simple awareness and tolerance to an appreciation, respect, and celebration of all of the learners that we meet and teach."
