Maricopa Community Colleges

Proposition 300

The last few months have brought the Maricopa community’s attention to policies and procedures with the adoption of policies related to the Blue Ribbon Panel as well as Maricopa’s development of procedures in compliance with Prop 300.

To quote from the Chancellor’s recent Conversation with the Chancellor, “All employees of the Maricopa Community Colleges have a duty to do the right thing. I believe that this organization, its administrators, its faculty and its entire staff, have been given a trust.”  (September, 2007) And our policies and procedures must reflect that trust.

At Maricopa, we are committed to “working collectively and responsibly to meet the life-long learning needs of our diverse students and communities” (Maricopa Vision Statement) by “provid(ing) access to higher education for diverse students and communities.” (Maricopa Mission Statement)

Maricopa developed procedures to comply with Prop 300 and clarified to students that, "The new law does not prevent anyone from enrolling in the Maricopa Community Colleges."

"We are complying with the law while maintaining our goal of educating all students who wish to attend the Maricopa Community Colleges," said Dr. Steve Helfgot, Vice Chancellor for Student and Community Affairs. "We will continue to provide assistance to students within the framework of the law."

It is essential for us to be aware of Maricopa’s obligations and practices.  If you have not yet read Maricopa’s FAQs re: Prop 300, take the time to do so to ensure that we are representing Maricopa correctly and continuing to provide educational opportunities to all of our students in a respectful manner.
