Diversity in Action: Navigate Maricopa!!

The Diversity Advisory Council Training Work Group identified the importance of skilled supervisors in creating an inclusive and effective organization.  They worked directly with the Employee and Organizational Learning Team to see how they could support expanding the reach of Navigate Maricopa.

Navigate Maricopa is MCCCD’s supervisor development program designed to provide employees with the fundamental skills needed to motivate others and manage operations for organizational success.  The training addresses the needed competencies in the areas of Legal Issues, Managing Performance, Sound Business Practices, Innovation and Human Relations

During the week of March 26, the Employee and Organizational Learning Team, along with their Subject Matter Expert facilitators, piloted the delivery of the training as a 5-day program.  This approach was recommended by the Diversity Advisory Council as part of their Training Advisory Sub-Group so that new/newer supervisors could be quickly immersed into MCCCD's culture of diversity & inclusion.  This pilot program will be assessed to determine if this is an effective delivery method to be repeated again in the future.

DAC appreciates EOLT’s willingness to explore new ways to increase participation in the program, and will continue to encourage all supervisors to complete Navigate Maricopa.

"I learned a significant amount from both the material and the participants. Having an engaged, participatory group together for the week enriched the training experience" -Patrick Smith, Senior Accountant, District Office, 3/30/07

"This totally changes the way I will supervise, this class (series) should be mandatory for all new MCCCD supervisors." -Doug McCarthy, Director of Facilities, Phoenix College, 3/30/2007
