Diversity Advisory Council — Maricopa Diversity Strategic Plan
For the past year, a Strategic Planning Team has been working with the full DAC membership to solidify a Diversity Strategic Plan for Maricopa. The committee reviewed best practices and sample diversity plans from across the country. They synthesized the many elements of values and efforts that exist at Maricopa to provide the core and direction for the plan so that it links directly to Maricopa's overarching strategic directions and the Chancellor's three pillars, Student Success, Stewardship and One Maricopa.
The team led the general DAC membership in identifying outcomes for the plan. If our efforts are successful, what will an inclusive Maricopa look like? Potential indicators and strategies were generated.
The outcomes they identified are:
- All students, faculty and staff accept responsibility for creating and maintaining an inclusive environment.
- All students, faculty and staff are respected for their intrinsic value and worth.
- All students, faculty and staff trust they will be treated fairly.
- Faculty, staff and students reflect the diversity of our communities throughout the colleges and levels of the organization.
- All students, faculty and staff succeed without disparities based on physical, social, economic or political characteristics.
- . Constituency groups working collaboratively are primary resources to the organization.
- Colleges, campuses and sites share information, resources and communication for optimal results.
And finally, at the annual DAC Retreat, initial strategic efforts were identified to move Maricopa forward toward these outcomes using "The Four Disciplines of Execution," facilitated by Emily Weinacker of EOLT.
First generation actions include:
- Develop an emerging leadership training program for constituency groups to effectively engage with MCCCD.
- Increase awareness of diversity and inclusiveness through use of the new Employee Calendar.
- Recommend to the Counseling Instructional Council (CIC) to include diversity in the course curriculum for student success courses (CPD150/CPD115/AAA115).
- Coordinate with Human Resources on inclusiveness in hiring, advancement and other talent management processes.
In addition to these goals, DAC will continue to distribute Expressions and Informed Inclusion: Maricopa's Diversity Leadership Letter, recognize exemplary diversity efforts through the DAC Awards of Excellence, and continue to work with and support constituency group and policy group issues individually and in collaboration.
Watch for the posting of the complete retreat minutes and the Diversity Strategic Plan.
