DAC Award for Excellence: Rio Salado College

Claudia Lopez, Faculty Support

Claudia Lopez has gone above and beyond her role as a faculty support staff member as she has passionately dedicated her time to promoting the new Online ESL Track at Rio Salado College. She has served as the bi-lingual advisor for ESL as well as acted as a recruiter and spokesperson for the program.  Additionally, she has advised hundreds of students who have called in with questions about the courses and how they work. 

As a second language learner herself, Claudia understands the nees of this diverse population. She has been a motivator and cheerleader to many inquiring students, and her customer service skills are astonishing. She treats every student with dignity. Claudia has become a role model and mentor to Rio’s new English language learners.  Many of our students see her as the contact for Rio Salado College.  She has been a supporter to many students who have struggled for years to learn English.  Without a doubt, Claudia is primarily responsible for all of the enrollments for this new program. Her contributions have greatly impacted Rio Salado College, Online ESL, and students.
